This information helps growers and applicators make more informed decisions before entering the field.

When an application fails to deliver the expected results, attention is often focused on the product, application rate, or environmental conditions.

However, there is another factor that can significantly influence performance long before the spray reaches its target: water quality.

Parameters such as pH, hardness, bicarbonate levels, and other water characteristics can affect the behavior and effectiveness of crop protection products, sometimes reducing performance before the application even begins.

A Factor That Often Goes Unnoticed

Water quality is frequently evaluated only after problems arise. By that point, however, a significant portion of the investment has already been made.

Understanding water characteristics allows applicators and agronomists to better evaluate the conditions under which a spray solution is prepared and identify factors that may influence application performance.

Because an effective application does not begin when the sprayer enters the field. It begins much earlier, with product selection, water quality assessment, and the conditions under which the mixture is prepared.

Turning Data into Applied Knowledge

LEAF combines laboratory expertise with an extensive water-quality database generated from samples collected in agricultural regions across the country.

This information helps identify patterns and regional characteristics of water sources used in farming operations, providing greater understanding of one of the key factors influencing application performance.

Water quality is not simply another data point. It can directly impact mixture compatibility, stability, and behavior, all of which influence the overall effectiveness of an agricultural application.

A Resource Backed by Science and Experience

LEAF is the first Laboratory for the Evaluation of Adjuvants and Formulations in Spanish-speaking Latin America, established in Pergamino, Argentina, in 2021.

The laboratory generates evaluations and applied knowledge related to water quality, mixture compatibility, surface tension, evaporation, droplet spectrum, and other parameters that directly affect agricultural application performance.

To date, LEAF has accumulated:

  • More than 26,000 water quality analyses.
  • More than 2,000 crop protection tank-mix evaluations.
  • More than 1,000 surface tension curves analyzed.
